Prof. Dr. Meinrad Maria Grewenig, born in 1954 in Saarbrücken, is a recognized figure in the field of cultural management, culture, and industrial heritage. With an impressive career as a museum director, concept developer, and academic author, he has made a significant contribution to the development of major cultural institutions in Germany and Europe.
His extensive bibliography of over 350 publications underscores his academic depth and influence in the cultural landscape. Together with his team, he has conceived, curated, and directed over 200 major exhibitions ranging from ancient Egyptian times to 21st-century art. These exhibitions ranked among the most visited exhibitions in Germany and France.
Museum Leadership
As founding director general of the UNESCO World Heritage site Völklinger Hütte (1999-2019) and director of the Historical Museum of the Palatinate Speyer (1992-1999), Meinrad Maria Grewenig set new standards for museum concepts and visitor engagement.

He transformed the Völklinger Hütte into a vibrant cultural center with over 4.4 million visitors, established industrial heritage in Europe, and initiated pioneering projects such as the exhibition portal on the great cultures of the world, the ScienceCenter Ferrodrom, and the UrbanArt Biennale®.
Awards & Honors
For his achievements, including the establishment of the first children's and youth museum in Germany, he received numerous honors, such as the "Chevalier dans l‘Ordre national du Mérite de la République de France" (2016).
European Engagement
As founding president of ERIH – European Route of Industrial Heritage – and lecturer at European universities in art history, industrial heritage, and cultural management, he actively promotes international exchange and the communication of industrial heritage.
